The President signed the extension of the moratorium on selling agricultural land
The law was signed by the President on 4 February.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Monday, February 4, was signed by act No. 2666-VIII to extend the moratorium on selling agricultural land until 2020. This was reported on the website of the Parliament.
The document provides for the extension of the ban on the sale of farmland until January 1, 2020.
As you know, in may 2018, the European court of human rights acknowledged the moratorium on land sales in Ukraine violate the right to property, guaranteed by the First Protocol to the European Convention on human rights. Ukraine this decision is not challenged and it became final.
The ECtHR has stated that he can assign billions of hryvnias of compensation for Ukrainians wishing to obtain ownership of agricultural land if the government did not lift the moratorium.
The Verkhovna Rada on 20 December adopted the law on prolongation of moratorium on sale of farmland until January 1, 2020.
