Cadence President was not enough to complete the judicial reform, said Petro Poroshenko.

Current President Petro Poroshenko has appointed 75 judges to the Supreme Court. The ceremony was held on Tuesday, may 7.

The corresponding decree on the appointment was read by the Deputy head of the presidential Administration Oleksiy Filatov. In particular, appointed 25 judges in the appeal administrative court, 15 – cassation economic court, 13 – kazionny criminal court and 22 in kazionny civil court. All judges took the oath.

Petro Poroshenko said that after this appointment, the Supreme Court will be working virtually at full strength.

“Cadence President is not enough to fully complete the judicial reform. Completed the formation of the Supreme and Supreme anti-corruption courts, transferred judges who have successfully passed the qualification evaluation in the new courts of appeal, they began work”, – said Poroshenko

He complained that while the reform has not touched upon the courts of first instance and not all judges are guided by Supreme Court judges in decision-making.

“I hope that the next President and his team will respect the decision with respect to the independent and fair trial, enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine”, – said Poroshenko.

According to him, this very idea of independence when neither the President nor the Parliament have any influence on the court and the procedures for the appointment and dismissal of judges is the basis of judicial reform.

Earlier in April, the judge of the District administrative court of Kyiv filed a lawsuit against Petro Poroshenko in the Supreme Court’s recognition of its omission from the requirement to issue a decree appointing judges to the position and to recover the material damage. The plaintiff substantiated his position by the fact that Poroshenko during February-March 2019 contrary to the requirements of the law on judicial system and status of judges issued the decree of appointment, thereby depriving the judge the right to work and additional payments for years of service.

It was also reported that Petro Poroshenko has appointed more than 80 judges. The head of state signed decrees on appointment of judges in local General courts of 11 regions of Ukraine.
