The Ukrainian side has invited Turkey to take part in establishing peace in the Donbas region through its peacekeeping mission in the UN.

President Petro Poroshenko invited the head of Turkey Recep Erdogan to send Turkish troops to Donbass in the framework of the UN peacekeeping mission. He said this during a joint press conference in Istanbul on Saturday, November 3, reports the press service of the Ukrainian President.

In particular, Poroshenko stressed that a very important for Ukraine are the assurances to Turkey that she will not remain indifferent to the issues.

“Important for us are the assurances to Turkey that she will not remain aloof from the issues of “creeping aggression” in the sea of Azov and human rights violations in the annexed Peninsula,” – said the head of state.

According to him, the parties agreed to coordinate action to address these issues.

“We reaffirmed our commitment to work together on solving these issues on a bilateral level and at multilateral level in the framework of international organizations, particularly the UN. I suggested to the President to intensify our dialogue, including support decisions about the deployment of peacekeepers, under a United Nations mandate. We trust Turkey and will be happy to see if Turkey participated in establishing peace in the Donbas region through its peacekeeping mission in the UN,” – said Poroshenko.

In turn, Erdogan assured the immutability of the position of Turkey in relation to Ukraine.

“Believe, please, in our position, which is to support the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity of Ukraine. We again stressed that we have never recognized and will not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea, and we will continue to protect the rights and interests of the Crimean Tatars remaining in Crimea, and those who were forced to move from the region”, – said the Turkish leader.

He also stressed that Turkey wants “the clash in Eastern Ukraine that now there continue to ended and was resolved under international law through diplomatic and peaceful ways.”

Earlier, the Ukrainian and Turkish sides in the framework of the official visit of the President of Petro Poroshenko in Istanbul signed a number of bilateral documents.

It was also reported that Ukraine and Turkey have made a decision before the end of the year to complete the work on signing the agreement on free trade zone.
