Ukraine will continue to pursue a policy of good neighbourliness in relation to Moldova.

Ukraine will best contribute to the restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova. This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko together with the Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip briefing in the Odessa region on Monday, July 17.

“Ukraine is ready to support the restoration of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova”, – said Poroshenko.

He recalled that the war in Transnistria, 25 years ago, had terrible consequences for hundreds of thousands of people. He also stressed that Ukraine will continue to pursue a policy of good neighbourliness in respect of Moldova and will never recognize the Transnistrian Republic as a separate state.

In turn Philip called statements about the “blockade” of Transnistria by Ukraine and Moldova speculation.

“It is strange to hear all sorts of speculation about the so-called blockade of Transnistria from the Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities. We need to look at what the export of its products to Ukraine, for example, in 2015-2016 amounted to almost $ 10 million from this territory, and 60% of the total exports from the region was in the EU,” said Philip.

Earlier, the Moldovan President Igor Dodon said that the conflict in the Donbass prevents Moldova’s trade with Russia.
