Ukraine is at the finish line to receive autocephaly, said the President, wishing success to the Exarch.

The process of granting autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has already reached the finish line. It is declared by the President Petro Poroshenko during a meeting with the Exarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople on Monday, September 17, in Kiev.

“We are together, especially in the last three years passed this way, and in this way it is now, I can say that in the homestretch,” said Poroshenko.

He noted that Ukraine looks forward to the accession of one local Orthodox Church, which would become “the symbol of the reunification of the country, consolidation of peace, the grace that would finally unite the Orthodox faith and the Ukrainian state”.

The President wished the Exarch success in their mission.

In turn, the Exarch of Ukraine, Archbishop Pamphylian Daniel confirmed that the representatives of the Constantinople Patriarchate will continue to work “on the already decided issue” – the process of granting autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.”

“Of course, willing to talk, and… cooperation with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the bosom of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. We do not have any biases to meet with representatives of various religious organizations to find out their views and constructively cooperate with them,” said the Archbishop.

The Exarch handed Poroshenko the official address of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew about their appointment.

Earlier, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed two representatives to prepare for the autocephaly of the UOC. In the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate was called the move a “gross violation”.

Later the Synod of ROC decided to stop participating in the structures under the chairmanship of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. In the temples of the Moscow Patriarchy will cease to mention the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in prayers. At the same time, the Eucharistic communion between the Patriarchates remains.
