Poroshenko expects the EU’s visa-free regime for Ukrainians after a few months

According to the President, the EU commends and supports our reforms.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is convinced that the European Union will provide a visa-free regime for Ukrainians after a few months.

“Visa-free regime was my obligation to you. Mark “done” will be to put in a few months. On the way to this decision we implemented reforms that changed the country. The EU appreciates and supports our reforms,” said Poroshenko in an address to the Ukrainian people, released on Wednesday.

The head of state noted that the current President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker with the news that the legislative proposal to introduce visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens was made to the Council and the European Parliament, was the long-awaited news.

“For me personally, it’s been a long road hard diplomatic and political work. Remember every step, every decision, almost every letter in the visa-free legislation. And we implemented the plan, which included almost 140 conditions. The most important of which relate to new and efficient system of security and the fight against corruption”, – said the President of Ukraine.

In this regard, Poroshenko expressed gratitude on behalf of the Ukrainian people for a European Commission decision, “which brings us closer together with the common European family”.

“And for our joint work on visa-free regime is grateful to the Verkhovna Rada, the government, diplomats and, of course, civil society. When together – we win. Glory To Ukraine! Glory To Europe!” – added the head of state.

As reported, on 20 April the European Commission invited the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union to cancel visas for Ukrainian citizens.
