Порошенко: Украина была матерью для РПЦ

Poroshenko said about the baptism of Ukraine

President Petro Poroshenko believes that today Russia prevents Ukraine to have an independent Church.

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko in an interview to the Serbian television channel RTS said that every country has the right to an independent Church and urged the world to support Ukraine in the granting of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church, reports the website of the President.

“Every country has the right to an independent Church. On July 28 we will mark 1030-anniversary of the baptism of Ukraine. It then created the Ukrainian Church. Ukraine is the mother Church of Constantinople. And then Ukraine was the mother of the Russian Orthodox Church. Exactly, and not Vice versa. And today, Russia wants to stop us to have their independent Church: the Russian Church – the Church of the aggressor. Ukrainian Church – a Church for Ukrainians. It’s a big difference,” said the head of state.

The President noted that the establishment of an independent Church supports more than half of Ukrainians. “I hope that with God’s help we will get the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church. The support of others for us, this means a lot,” – said the head of state.

We will remind, on April 22, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Ecumenical Patriarchate has considered the request for the establishment on the territory of the country separate from the Russian Orthodox Church Autocephalous Church and started procedures to grant autocephaly to Ukraine.

In may, the UOC-MP expressed his disagreement with the idea of creating an Autocephalous Church in Ukraine.
