Poroshenko: US will not soften sanctions against Russia

Порошенко: В США не смягчат санкции против России

The President Of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko

The head of state denied information that the us plans to soften sanctions against Russia.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels that the US does not intend to soften sanctions against Russia.

Recall that the Republican majority of the house of representatives stopped a vote on new sanctions against Russia. Such actions in the media interpreted as an opportunity to mitigate the sanctions.

“I would like to categorically refute this position. We had a very detailed conversation with the speaker of the house of representatives of U.S. Congress Paul Ryan, and the leader of the democratic minority Mrs. Palace that in Congress there is full support of sanctions. And discussions are conducted exclusively on the powers of the President of the United States as to whether the President unilaterally lift the sanctions, will need some discussion in the Senate”, − said Poroshenko.

He also noted that he sees the discussion about the content of the sanctions and expressed the opinion that they will be discussed during a visit by trump in Europe.

“In addition, the United States must play the same role of the leader for the coordination and unification of transatlantic cooperation, the coordination of sanctions within the framework of the “Big seven”, and together with the European Union. Otherwise, those sanctions would be ineffective,” − said the head of state.
