The head of state will announce whether it will participate in the presidential election, after the start of the election campaign.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will facilitate the holding of fair and democratic elections of the head of state and Parliament in 2019. But the war left its imprint on the character of the election campaign.
He said this in Kyiv at the 15th annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES), reports Interfax-Ukraine on Friday, September 14.
“I, as President, firmly guarantee free, fair, democratic elections. Presidential elections, elections for a new Parliament and the elections of local governments. We will protect the free will of citizens”, – assured Poroshenko.
He recalled that in situations of armed aggression, the Ukrainian authorities refused the imposition of martial law and any restrictions of political rights and freedoms of citizens.
“But of course, war will certainly left its mark on the character of the campaign,” he said, adding that the Ukrainian authorities “absolutely know”, whom the Kremlin would like to see in the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine.
Poroshenko also said he will announce whether to participate in scheduled for spring 2019 presidential election, after the start of the election campaign.
Earlier it was reported that it gained a pre-election headquarters of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko for the presidential election. The campaign will be headed by the former head of the faction Hryniv. While Poroshenko does not believe in his victory in the first round.
