Thursday, December 7, the Parliament in plenary session adopted the bill No. 5294 “On prevention and counteraction to domestic violence”. The document was supported by 237 deputies, according to the website of the Parliament.

In particular, the law determines organizational and legal basis of prevention and combating domestic violence, the main directions of realization of the state policy in this sphere aimed at protecting the rights and interests of victims of domestic violence.

The term “domestic violence” defined by acts (or inaction) of a physical, sexual, psychological or economic violence that occur within the family and within the home or between family members and between former or current spouses or between those who live together or have lived as one family, but was not related or married to each other.

The law defines a system of measures to counteract domestic violence, which is exercised by bodies of Executive power, local self-government, enterprises, institutions and organizations, and also citizens of Ukraine, foreigners and persons without citizenship.

The document also defines the concept of “psychological violence” and “sexual violence”.

The law applies to spouses, former and future spouses, roommates, relatives, etc.
