Rada adopted a statement on “elections” in Crimea

The Parliament of Ukraine condemns Russian “elections” in Crimea and urged the international community to impose new sanctions.

The Verkhovna Rada at a meeting on Wednesday, September 11, adopted a draft resolution on non-recognition of the legitimacy of the so-called local “elections” in annexed Crimea. The decision was supported by 325 MPs.

The resolution calls on the international community to give assessment of illegal actions of Russia on the organization and holding of the so-called local “elections”, as well as the continuation and strengthening of international political and economic pressure on Russia.

“The results of this illegal voting are null and void and without any legal consequences. They also in no way can indicate or in any way be used as evidence of any changes in the status of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine – the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol, determined by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine”, – said in a statement.

In addition, the Council urged the international community to apply additional sanctions against Russia and personal sanctions for the persons involved in the organization of the “elections”.

Note that a number of countries, including USA, Germany and the European Union have declared non-recognition of “elections” in Crimea.

Earlier the Prosecutor’s office of Crimea reported about suspicion in illegal elections on the Peninsula to the organizer and his Deputy.
