Today the Verkhovna Rada endorsed the draft law No. 6470, which establishes the foreign policy course of Ukraine, where the priority indicated by the country’s accession to NATO.

For a decision at the meeting on Thursday voted 276 deputies, Ukrainska Pravda reports.

According to the explanatory Memorandum, the new law makes it necessary for joining the Alliance changes to the laws of Ukraine “About fundamentals of domestic and foreign policy” and “About bases of national security of Ukraine”.

According to the authors of the bill, the adoption of this law will contribute to the expansion and deepening of Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO to strengthen national security and will lead to a guarantee of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Russian aggression against Ukraine, annexation of part of Ukrainian territory was put before the Ukrainian government urgent task with respect to the real national security of the country”, – they explained the need for such step of Ukraine.

It is emphasized that the need for the country’s accession to NATO is shown by the experience of several States-neighbours of Ukraine, for which such unity was “the most effective tool to ensure security, preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignty”.

As reported Корреспондент.netKiev plans to hold a referendum on Ukraine’s accession to NATO. This was stated by President Petro Poroshenko.

Earlier, the head of state said that only NATO can effectively stop the aggression of Russia.
