Rasmussen voiced tasks at work Poroshenko

Расмуссен озвучил задачи на работе у Порошенко

Rasmussen will be a kind of mediator between the EU and Kiev

Former NATO Secretary General will be to convince the EU that “the Ukrainians have already conducted serious reforms”.

The newly appointed Advisor to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, former Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen will establish bilateral cooperation with the Western partners of Kiev. He told this to Reuters.

He believes that Ukraine will be easier to convince the EU to extend sanctions against Russia, if Kiev will demonstrate progress in implementing reforms and combating corruption.

“From the representatives of Western countries, I know that their willingness to extend sanctions connected with the Ukraine’s readiness to actually carry out comprehensive reforms,” Rasmussen said.

“So my goal as adviser to the President to establish two-way interaction. On the one hand of Western leaders, I’m convinced that Ukrainians have conducted serious reforms,” said he, ” on the other, I’ll inform the President about what I say to my interlocutors, is that the Ukrainian authorities clearly understand what is a priority among Western leaders,” added Rasmussen.

Former NATO Secretary General added that “the current Ukrainian government under President Poroshenko has carried out more reforms than were conducted over the last 20 years.” “But, of course, to continue to support the West it is important that the reform process continued. And so you need to keep moving forward,” he added.

As reported, Poroshenko has appointed Rasmussen to be his adviser on may 27.

Recall Rasmussen from 2001 to 2009 he headed the government of Denmark, from 2009 to 2014 – NATO Secretary General.
