84-year-old Raul Castro elected first Secretary of Cuba’s ruling Communist party for another five years. For the post of second Secretary re-elected 85-year-old Jose Ramon Machado Ventura.

Speaking at the party Congress, Raul Castro said that this will be the last term for historical generation, which made the revolution of 1959. He argued for the introduction of age restrictions for the next generation of leaders of Cuba. In his opinion, they must retire at 70 years.

It is noted that the Congress was also attended by 89-year-old Fidel Castro, who led Cuba until 2008.
