Russia’s HIV incidence is twice as high as the average in 14 regions

In 14 Russian regions the HIV prevalence exceeded the average indicators for the country more than doubled. This was announced by the chief expert on infectious diseases, Ministry of health of Russia Irina Shestakova, reports “RIA Novosti”.

“If we have the incidence in the whole country, 65 people per hundred thousand population (in some regions) exceeded the incidence of significant. This figure, which is more than two times (more) than in the whole of Russia”, – said Shestakov, noting that the coverage of antiretroviral therapy does not exceed 40%.

Shestakov noted that the high incidence rates observed in Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Tyumen regions, Perm and Krasnoyarsk Krai, and also in Tomsk, Irkutsk, Omsk regions.

Also among the regions where above average, got the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous district, Altai Krai, Orenburg, Samara, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk region.

Annually HIV infected about a thousand people at the age of 15-20 years and a whole lot of new cases are allocated among the active population aged 30-50 years.

We will remind, earlier the Ministry of health of Russia said that in the 10 regions of the country a critical situation with the spread of HIV. The health Department of the administration of Yekaterinburg announced that the city was 26693 HIV infection. This amounts to 1,826 100 thousand people, i.e. 1.8% of the population of the metropolis. The Minister of health Veronika Skvortsova said that the country’s 10 regions critical for HIV, and Deputy Minister of health of the Russian Federation Sergey Kraevoy said that the increase in incidence is largely formed by the 22 regions.
