Ukrainian scientists have published the results of a unique study of the dynamics of indicators of cardiovascular health of smokers, conducted in the cardiology Institute. Strazhesko.

The study, conducted by scientists at six months from September 2016 to March 2017 – was attended by 60 Smoking men and women (49 and 11 respectively) older than 18 years surveyed in epidemiological screening unorganized urban population and not motivated for Smoking cessation. All participants had a Smoking history of more than 15 years and daily smoked 15 cigarettes or more. They all passed full inspection at the start and after 3 and 6 months programs.

It should be noted that the study did not include patients with coronary heart disease, cardiac insufficiency, hypertension II-III century., cerebrovascular disorders and diabetes mellitus. According to the Protocol were formed 3 groups of 20 persons each: group I – in as an alternative to traditional Smoking used heating system iQOS tobacco, group II – switched to electronic cigarettes Joyetech eGo AIO and group III participants continued to smoke the traditional cigarettes in their usual mode.

As shown by biochemical results, the transition of smokers to the electronic system of nicotine delivery to ensure its intake without cigarette smoke allows to avoid disruption of oxygen-transport function of blood, damage of vascular endothelium and development proatherogenic changes in the metabolism of lipids and lipoproteins in the blood. This is what indicates a decrease in the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

“We conducted a 6-month study clearly demonstrated the improvement in endothelial function and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in smokers when switching to ISDN”, – summed up Elena Kvasha, M. D., head of a group of scientists who carried out the study.

Scientists also noted that the differences in the dynamics of changes in health status in each group of participants suggests the need for further study of each product, which claims to use in order to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, the study revealed that the use of electronic alternatives in combination with traditional tobacco cigarettes (“dual use”) significantly reduces the positive effect for health.

A similar study was conducted in Ukraine for the first time. To date, the results are the only scientific assessment of the impact of the electronic delivery systems nicotine on the health of Ukrainian smokers
