Oleg Sentsov hunger strike for nearly four months

The biggest political group in the European Parliament have put forward the Ukrainian Director for the Sakharov prize for 2018.

The largest faction in the European Parliament – the European people’s party – nominated prisoner in Russia Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov for the award of a name of Andrey Sakharov.

On Tuesday, August 6, said on Twitter Brussels correspondent of Radio Freedom Rikard Jozwiak.

“The biggest political group in the European Parliament has made Sentsov Sakharov prize 2018”, – the journalist wrote.

Earlier it was reported that Sentsov may be one of the nominees for the Sakharov prize.

We will remind, the prize named after Andrey Sakharov For freedom of thought is the annual award of the European Parliament. It was founded in 1988 and is awarded in four areas, in particular in the field of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

In 2016 the prize was nominated the leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev, 2015 – Ukrainian Hope Savchenko. In 2014, the award nominated Euromaidan.

Previously, the Directors of the Western countries and the French culture Minister called on the international community, the UN and the European Union with the request to help to release Oleg Sentsov.

As is known, may 14, 2018 Oleg Sentsov was on a hunger strike demanding the release of all detained Russian Ukrainian prisoners. During these four months, he survived several crises of hunger, however, stop the protest refuses.
