The new head of the Ministry of health considers that Ukrainians should have access to medical cannabis, and will work in this direction.

Ukrainians with serious diseases needs to access medicines that contain medical cannabis. This was stated by the Minister of health Zoryana Skaletska, reports UKRINFORM on Monday, September 16.

“There are patients who need access to medicines, which contain the component of medical cannabis and are efficient and effective in removing the symptoms, Patients in Ukraine have the right to access drugs containing medical cannabis. We’ll do it step by step,” said Skaletsky.

She also noted that the treatment with drugs containing medical cannabis need about two million Ukrainians. In particular, more than 20 thousand children with forresistance forms of epilepsy (not treatable by existing drugs), hundreds of thousands of cancer patients, more than 100 thousand of palliative patients and tens of thousands of war veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The therapeutic properties of cannabis officially recognized. Drugs based on it are allowed in 44 countries, in particular in the EU.

In Ukraine, the current legislation does not allow to explore cannabis and its derivatives and use for treatment – these substances are included in the lists of narcotic and psychotropic, the turnover of which is prohibited in our country.

Earlier, the poll showed that legalizing medical marijuana supports more than 50% of Ukrainians.

It was also reported that in June near the building of Verkhovna Rada held a rally to demand the legalization of marijuana.
