New name – Equinor – reflects the heritage and values of the company, according to the Board of the company.

One of the world’s largest oil companies Norwegian Statoil changed its name to Equinor. The decision was taken at a meeting of shareholders, stated in a press release.

According to the report, shares Equinor from may 16, will be traded on the Oslo stock exchange under the Ticker “EQNR”.

Name Equinor formed of two parts: equi (Norwegian for “equality” and “equilibrium”) and nor (points to the origin of the company).

In the opinion of the Board of the company, the new name reflects the heritage and values of the company.

Statoil is the largest oil company of Norway and Northern Europe. The company is one of the largest suppliers of crude oil and gas on the world market. Statoil provides about 60% of the offshore production of hydrocarbons in Norway.

Earlier it was reported that the king of Swaziland Mswati III renamed the country the Kingdom of eswatini (Kingdom of eSwatini).
