Ukraine in the ranking of exporters of weapons

In the previous two years, the SIPRI report, Russia ranked the first place among exporters of Ukrainian weapons – 23% of the total military exports to Ukraine.

Ukroboronprom also losing ground

SIPRI in December last year, released its annual rating of the hundred largest military-industrial companies in the world for 2017. Ukroboronprom took 81 seats, down two positions compared to the previous year.

Its sales of weapons compared to 2016 fell 11 percent to one billion dollars. The study says that this is due to inflation.

As in the previous year, the top five largest arms exporters were the US, Russia, France, Germany and China. They sold 75 percent of all weapons in the years 2014-2018. The volume of international transfers of major conventional weapons increased by 7.8 percent due to deliveries to the middle East.

The US accounts for 36 percent of the global arms market. The share of the United States on the arms market increased by six percent. Compared with the previous five-year period, America has sold 29 percent more weapons.

“The United States has further strengthened its position as the world’s leading weapons supplier. Over the past five years, the U.S. has supplied weapons to at least 98 countries,” the report said.
