Ukraine ranks first in Europe in number of deaths from cardiovascular diseases. Four out of 10 of these deaths are associated with malnutrition and excessive consumption of sugar.

This was announced by acting Minister of health Suprun on his page in Facebook on Monday, March 11.

“Sweets, namely, sugar added to them to become overweight, reduce the sensitivity of tissues to insulin, are deposited on the capillaries and make them weak. TRANS fats in sweets provoke unnecessary inflammation, cause or exacerbate atherosclerosis – disease of blood vessels,” said Suprun.

According to her, the average daily rate added sugars should be no more than 32-50 grams, and is five teaspoons.

“But it is better to minimize the consumption of sugar – don’t add it to tea or coffee. If sugar is added – do not eat additional of sweets,” – said the official.
