The signs of hypothermia – shaking, lethargy, fatigue, drowsiness, impaired speech and thinking ability.

With colds should go to a warm place and drink a warm beverage, but in no case do not try to warm the person in a hot tub. This was announced by acting Minister of health Suprun on his page on Facebook on Thursday, January 10.

“Remember the signs of hypothermia – shaking, lethargy, fatigue, drowsiness, impaired speech and thinking ability. From hypothermia, the person may also lose consciousness. In children these symptoms can be noticed if the skin is bright red and cold, and they are very lethargic. In the case of hypothermia a person’s first call 103,” said Suprun.

Before the arrival of ambulance you need:

– place person in warm room;

– if the person’s wet clothing, remove and dry it;

– cover person with a blanket;

– give to drink a warm drink (not alcohol), if the person can swallow;

– give something sweet, if the person can swallow normally.

In any case it is impossible:

– do not try to warm the person in a hot tub;

– do not touch the frostbitten parts of the body and do not massage them;

– in no case do not RUB the skin with snow;

– do not immerse the affected limb in hot water and don’t put them to a radiator or heater;

– do not give to drink alcohol.

Suprun also reminded of how better to keep warm:

– don’t leave home hungry, and if you are cold – eat something and drink plenty of fluids;

– do not smoke. Smoking, in particular nicotine is bad for blood vessels. This increases the risks to violate the regulation;

– not warming alcohol;

– do not wear tight shoes and wear several layers of clothing. The required attributes in the cold — gloves, hat, scarf and raised collar. They will protect exposed skin from the cold;

– be active — move your hands, your toes, but avoid overwork, because when you are tired, they lose heat faster.

– every half-hour, go into a warm room.

Recall that in the period from 12 December 2018, 8 January 2019 for medical aid due to hypothermia and frostbite turned 1037 Ukrainians.
