Help the US and NATO in the Black sea

The American response to the capture of the Ukrainian ship was the increased presence in the Black sea, as well as the assistance of the Ukrainian Navy.

The Wall Street Journal this week wrote that the United States help to counter the efforts of Russia aimed at strangling the economy of Ukraine and destabilize the Pro-Western government in Kiev by blocking access to the Ukrainian ports.

We are talking about training, supply of equipment and vehicles. Last year, Ukraine has received two patrol boats of the Island class, formerly in the US Coast guard. Washington is also considering the transfer of frigates to strengthen the Ukrainian Navy.

“All this can not change the rules of the game, but such actions are deterrent element and make it more difficult for Russian attack on Ukraine”, – talking representative of the US state Department in Ukraine with Kurt Volker.

NATO is also preparing a package of measures to strengthen its position in the Black sea, and, according to the newspaper, this will be announced in April at the meeting of foreign Ministers of the 29 member countries of the Alliance in Washington.

The Alliance has already strengthened its presence in the region, as the Montreux Convention. More about this in the material of NATO in the Black sea: Stratfor appreciated assistance to Ukraine.

Naval forces of the United States also increased its presence in the Black sea in the last few months, including they conducted joint exercises with Romania, on whose territory is the American anti-missile systems.
