Syrian military plane crashed in the border area of Turkey, according to authorities. The Prime Minister of Turkey Binali Yildirim said that the crashed plane is a Soviet multipurpose fighter of the third generation MiG-23 (NATO – Flogger).

According to the head of the government, the plane crashed near the town of Samandag in the border province of Hatay.

Currently in Turkey looking for a pilot who, supposedly, managed to eject: Hatay Governor Erdal ATA said that arrived at the crash site, rescuers have not found anyone in the cockpit.

One of opposing the Syrian government Islamist groups – the “Brigade of Ahrar al-sham” – posted on Twitter a video where it was said that the fighter was their goal.

The representative of the group, Ahmed Karaali said Turkish state Anadolu news Agency that the plane was shot down when attacked positions of the group in Idlib province.

Turkish authorities, however, do not rule out that the fighter could break due to bad weather conditions.

The civil conflict in Syria has lasted for six years, the number of dead in the thousands.
