Russian state VTB Bank lent $ 12 billion to the Central African Republic (CAR), which is one of the poorest countries in the world. About it reports Reuters with reference to information of the Russian Central Bank on Wednesday, November 28.

It is noted that data on loan indicated in the quarterly financial report of VTB published by the CBR. The report listed the financial requirements of VTB in respect of top ten countries as of October 1 of the current year. The CAR opposite the table shows the amount 801.933.814.000 RUB (of 11.99 billion), more than six times higher than the annual GDP of the country.

In response to the request of the Agency, VTB said that such a loan does not exist. The Bank cited data of the Central Bank “operating error”.

Press Secretary of the government of the Central African Republic said they have no information about the credit, but noted that its size is so large compared to GDP, the data do not look reliable.

Who was the recipient of the loan, what was its purpose when it was issued, and on what terms is unknown.

According to the world Bank, Central African Republic population is about 5 million people, a GDP of 1.95 billion dollars.

In August of this year it became known that Russia and the Central African Republic signed an agreement on military cooperation. Signatures under the document have put the head of the Russian defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu and the Minister of national defence and recovery of the army of TSAR Marie Noel of Cayara.

Earlier in March, Russia sent five military and 170 instructors in the CARS. Also the African country on a grant basis was given small arms and ammunition.
