Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos signed a decree on cease-fire against the opposition of the Army of the people (FARC).

About this he wrote on Twitter.

“I signed a decree on bilateral and definitive cease-fire against the FARC, which will take effect from midnight on Monday, it’s the end of the conflict,” wrote Santos.

Earlier it was reported that after four years of negotiations in Cuba the Colombian government and the rebel Revolutionary armed forces of the two countries signed an agreement on ceasefire.

The agreement still must be approved by a national referendum, to be held on 2 October.

The FARC was established in 1964 as the military wing of the local Communist party to fight for the building of a “New Colombia” — a society of social justice and equality. The FARC is recognized by the United States and Europe as a terrorist organization and alleged links with the drug mafia. In the ranks of the group consists of up to 20 thousand fighters.
