The government requires recognition by the court of the fact of violation by the Russian Federation of the rights of 24 Ukrainian sailors.

Ukraine has sent to the European court of human rights (ECHR) a full statement against Russia with the requirement to recognise illegal arrest of the sailors, who on November 25 was captured in the area of the Kerch Strait. About Commissioner for the ECHR Ivan Lyschina announced on his page in Facebook on Monday, January 7.

According to him, the government followed the instructions and filed today, a full statement in case No. 55855/18.

“The government demands the recognition by the court of the fact of violation by the Russian Federation of the rights of 24 Ukrainian sailors, in the course of unlawful attack on Ukrainian ships, injuries and the capture of the sailors in the Kerch Strait on 25 November 2018, their illegal detention in the penitentiaries of the Russian Federation and criminal responsibility,” wrote Lyschina.

According to him, the Ukrainian government believes that if this was a violation of article 2, 3, 5, 6 and 38 of the Convention.

Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko promised to do everything possible to captured sailors as soon as possible.
