The Council of Europe urged to consolidate judicial reform in the Constitution

The achieved changes should be in the Constitution.

To successfully complete the judicial reform in Ukraine needs to secure changes in the Constitution of the country, said the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe thorbjørn Jagland in a statement published on the official website of the COE.

In a statement, he urged the Ukrainian authorities to do everything necessary to complete the judicial system and, among other things, noted the importance of their enshrinement in the Constitution.

“Most of the achieved results will remain fragile if they are not in the Constitution, which should become the basis of national unity. The reform process requires a strong constitutional Foundation. Therefore, the adoption of the draft amendments to the Constitution prepared by a Constitutional Commission and proposed by the President Poroshenko to the Verkhovna Rada is an important and decisive step on the path to successful reform,” stressed the Secretary General.

Recall that in March, the then speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said that it is possible to adopt amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in the judicial system until the summer.
