The court decided to hear the preliminary objections of Russia to the jurisdiction of the arbitration in the previous stage of proceedings.

The international permanent court of arbitration in the Hague will consider the issue of jurisdiction in a dispute between Ukraine and Russia about the rights to oil extraction off the coast of the annexed Crimea. On Friday, August 31, reports Reuters.

In particular, the court decided to hear the preliminary objections of Russia to the jurisdiction of the arbitration in the previous stage of proceedings.

It is also reported that while consideration of the merits was suspended, and the judge should set time limits for the filing of documents by jurisdiction, after ascertaining the positions of the parties.

Recall, Ukraine has initiated a review in September 2016, according to the UN Convention on the law of the sea 1982 for the protection of their rights off the coast of the Crimea, the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait.

It was also reported that on may 12, 2017 in the Hague began the organizational hearings on the suit of Ukraine on the violation by Russia of the Convention on the law of the sea.
