По датам не совпадают. Что будет с дебатами

The debate remains open to question

The second week, Ukraine continues to discuss the debate between the presidential candidates, who reached the second round, but the holding of these debates is still open to question.

In the previous series of the show called “the Debate before the second round,” we learned of the surrender of presidential candidates in tests, challenging their results and the venue of the debate.

At the moment, and Petro Poroshenko, and Vladimir Zelensky, seemed to have agreed that their meeting will be held at the Olympic stadium, but now vary date.

Correspondent.net has gathered information about what is happening around debate.

The meeting place

Poroshenko called Zelensky come to the debate on Olympic stadium on 14 April.

“Mister Zelensky proposed stadium. Convinced that a stadium is not the best place for such discussion. But if he chose him, and in any other place refuses to debate – April 14, at the national (Olympic) stadium where he proposed Mr. Zelensky – I’m waiting for it,” – said Poroshenko.

The best time he called 19 or 20:00.

“Invite the audience, all the channels that the debate was held in place and in time, as they wanted Mr. Zelensky, and not to let him get away with this it offers. It would be irresponsible to the country and voters,” – said Poroshenko.

Zelensky said that the debate with Poroshenko will be held on April 19 at the Olympic.

“On 19 April at the NSC “Olimpiyskiy” will be my discussions with Poroshenko, where I can ask him any question. For example, when to start planting? Why Svinarchuk not behind bars?”, said Zelensky.

He expressed the opinion that “the people of Ukraine for 5 years (gathered) a lot of questions for Poroshenko, you can’t ask”.

“But I can. On your behalf. So write in the comments what exactly do you want to ask Poroshenko”, – summed up Zelensky.

Later, the Chairman of the PPB faction in the Verkhovna Rada Arthur Gerasimov said that the President Petro Poroshenko to agree to a debate any day, including April 19, as proposed by Zelensky.

“We hope in the near future to answer all the key questions of interest to the Ukrainian society in the debate. By the way, Petro Poroshenko waiting for Zelensky to the debate, in fact, on April 14 and April 19. As they say, “the stadium – because the stadium” – said Gerasimov.

As it happens in the world?

Prezidentskih in the first round of the 1995 elections in Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski received 35.11% of the votes, incumbent President Lech Walesa – by 33.11%. Polls before the second round showed that 55% of poles were convinced of the final victory of Walesa.

During the debate on 12 November 1995, Walesa attacked the opponent, using traditional anti-Communist rhetoric, which was to remind people of the past Kwasniewski. Kwasniewski instead was restrained and tried to position itself not as a representative of the left, but as a person capable of becoming the President of all the poles to a compromise for the future of Poland.

At the end of the debate he handed the valence hand, but he refused the handshake, saying: “the most I can give you is leg!”. Kwasniewski said later to journalists that Poland does not deserve a President who behaves.

The second debate on 15 November, in which Walesa was much more restrained, are unable to rectify the consequences of the first. Most of the audience believed Kwasniewski is more convincing.

In the end, Kwasniewski won the elections with 51% of the vote.

In 1960, the United States hosted the first television debate between John Kennedy and Richard Nixon. To conduct them the undisputed favorite of the elections was considered the Nixon, but Kennedy looked so convincing, that many researchers have called the debate a key moment in his campaign.

In 1980, the U.S. held another historical debate Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter. Again, the debate helped to ensure the advantage of the opponent: Reagan won the election. The debate in 2000 between George Bush and al Gore have completely changed the course of the election campaign, making a Bush favorite.

The first televised debate in the history of Ukraine took place in 1994 between Leonid Kravchuk and Leonid Kuchma. In the next election in 1999, Kuchma refused to debate with Petro Symonenko. In 2010 Viktor Yanukovych refused to debate with Yulia Tymoshenko, although in previous elections participated in the debate with Viktor Yushchenko.
