The EU has named the date of introduction of retaliatory duties on goods from USA

ЕС назвал дату введения ответных пошлин на товары из США

The European Union has set a date for a response to Washington’s decision to impose duties on aluminum and steel from the EU.

The European Commission published an official decree, providing for the introduction of 20 June 2018 tariff of 25% on the import of certain goods from the United States. The corresponding document of the European Commission published on Thursday, may 17, in official journal of the EU.

It is assumed that this measure would be a response to Washington’s decision to impose duties on aluminum and steel from the European Union.

“The Commission should immediately, no later than may 18, 2018, in writing, inform the Council for trade in goods, the WTO that in the absence of a negative response from the Council, the EU suspends from 20 June 2018 trade Annex on trade with the United States on the introduction of preferential import duties in the GATT 1994 (General agreement on tariffs and trade) in respect of goods specified in annexes I and II to ensure the application of additional duties on imports of these goods from the United States” – the document says.

The decision stated that part of the goods duty rate of not more than 25% will take effect from 20 June 2018. The second stage of the imposition of duties, according to the document, should earn 23 Mar 2021. Maximum fees here will be 10, 25 and 50%, depending on goods.

Recall that in early March, the President of the United States Donald trump has imposed a 25 percent import duties on steel and 10 per cent on the import of aluminum. The EU unfortunately has welcomed the decision and promised to give a “decisive” response. Now Washington has postponed the introduction of fees, it shall enter into force from 1 June.
