The EU plans to implement 39 projects in the transport sector at 4.5 billion euros

Ukraine could become a transport hub between Europe and Asia, according to the European Commission.

The EU sees the prospects for the transformation of Ukraine into a transport hub between Europe and Asia. This was stated by Director General for mobility and transport of the European Commission Henrik Hololei. According to the Ministry of infrastructure of Ukraine on Friday, 24 may, the second meeting of Transport high-level dialogue between Ukraine and the EU.

“We would like that you use good geographical location, Ukraine has become a transport hub between Europe and Asia. We therefore welcome the readiness of Ukraine to take part in the development of new railway corridors and a willingness to be part of the silk road,” said Hololei, stressing that the EU considers Ukraine a very important partner not only in transport but in all other industries.

He also noted that the approval of the transport strategy of Ukraine up to 2030 is very important for further cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.

“Now we see your priorities and it motivates us for further cooperation with your country. Important is the accession of Ukraine to the TNT, which was held earlier this year. This is a very clear signal, because now the transport corridor Europe continues on the territory of Ukraine. This event is the impetus for attracting investment in infrastructure”, – said Director General of the European Commission for mobility and transport, noting that the EU is planning in the next 10 years to implement 39 projects in the transport sector with a total value of 4.5 billion euros.

Hololei also stressed that Ukraine needs to adopt a number of legislative acts on reforming the transport sector, in particular, draft laws on railway and water transport.

“I especially want to emphasize achievements in the aviation sector. Historically, Ukraine – conductor, aerospace technology. Cooperation in this area is important to us. We use your experience, and it deepens the cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of aviation security and air navigation”, – stated the official of the European Commission.

Recall, the Cabinet adopted the national transport strategy up to 2030 in may last year. In private, it involves the construction in Ukraine of highways 10 and 30 airports.
