The European Commission has fined social network Facebook for $ 110 million, accusing the American company that it knowingly provided false information when buying a WhatsApp messenger in 2014.

She explained that by buying WhatsApp, Facebook has informed that will not be able to “enter a secure automatic connection” between the user accounts in the social network Facebook and WhatsApp messenger.

In the European Commission indicate that last year for the app WhatsApp received an update, which offered users the ability to “bind” their phone numbers to Facebook accounts.

“The European Commission should be able to make decisions on the impact of the acquisitions (among other companies – ed.) on competition, taking fully into account established facts,” said Vestager.

According to her, the amount of the fine corresponds to the magnitude of violations and should serve as a warning for the future.
