The fed raised the benchmark rates for the second time in a year

ФРС США повысила базовую ставку второй раз за год

The rate increase was the result of a change in the views of just one member of the Federal open market Committee.

The Federal reserve’s two-day meeting on Wednesday, June 13, announced the decision to raise the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.75-2.0 percent.

This year is the second increase in rates. In March, the bar has been raised on 0,25 percentage points – to 1.5-1.75 percent per annum.

The current rate increase was not unexpected. According to Interfax, the fed now expects a total of four increases in the rates in 2018 (including the March and the current) against the expected in March three promotions.

It is noted that this was the result of changes in the opinions of just one member of the Federal open market Committee (FOMC): now eight members of the Committee feel justified two more rate hike before the end of the year, and seven are of the opinion that another increase will be enough.

Forecast to 2019 provides for three interest rate hike, and another is expected in 2020.

Earlier in may, the fed kept its key rate at 1.5 to 1.75% Gotovina the backdrop of a strengthening labor market and moderate growth in economic activity.
