Petro Poroshenko met with Archbishop Leo

The Ukrainians have the right to create their own Church, as the Finns had the right 100 years ago, said the Primate of the Finnish Orthodox Church.

During a working visit to Finland the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with the Primate of the Finnish Orthodox Church, Archbishop Leo. About it reports a press-service of the head of state on Wednesday, November 7.

Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Archbishop Leo for the support of the Orthodox Church of Finland of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

“It’s important for us to know that your Church supports us in this historically important process,” – said the President.

In turn, the Primate of the Finnish Orthodox Church noted that “Ukrainians have the right to establish their own Church, as had the right Finns 100 years ago.”

Also Poroshenko and Archbishop Leo discussed the practical training Thomas the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

We will remind, on 3 November during a visit to Istanbul Petro Poroshenko and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed a cooperation agreement between Ukraine and the Patriarchate of Constantinople. According to Poroshenko, the agreement completes the process of granting of the Tomos Ukraine, and, according to Bartholomew, it can speed up the process.
