Shevchuk commented on the repeal of article enrichment during elections

Stanislav Shevchuk called the repeal of the article on illicit enrichment before the election by coincidence.

The fact that the constitutional court overturned the criminal charges of illicit enrichment during the presidential campaign, is a coincidence, says sacked Chairman of the constitutional court Stanislav Shevchuk. He declared it on air of TV channel Hromadske.

“We have long considered, exchanging projects, coordinated them. And coincidentally, that voice was in that moment, when began the presidential campaign. But the direct link I do not see”, – said Shevchuk.

He acknowledged that this decision had a powerful psychological effect. “Frankly, I did not expect this, because it is not the only article to combat corruption. There are more than 20 articles, so I can’t say that’s not recognized a constitutional article, the constitutional court overturned the fight against corruption,” – said the former judge.

Shevchuk believes that the abolition of the article on illicit enrichment has become “part of the dirty campaign” against him. “We made this decision and started to accelerate this message, that it is the President of the court responsible for this decision, he must have done it lobbied specifically time fit. Maybe it was specially used to dismiss me from the post of President?”, he said.

At the same time the ex-judge believes that despite the public criticism, the court made the right decision, no matter when it happened. “From the point of view of the public is one course of conduct or understanding of the process, and from the point of view of the court – no matter which political processes occur, if the decision is justified and consistent with the Constitution,” said Shevchuk.

We will remind, on February 27, the constitutional court of Ukraine issued a decision to cancel the article of the Criminal code on illicit enrichment, which they called unconstitutional.

It was also reported that the NAB has closed all the cases of unjust enrichment. The total amount of state, the legality of which examined the detectives in these cases amounted to about 500 million hryvnia.

Later, the judges of the CCU refused to consider the law on lustration, instead, they voted no confidence in the head of the court. As a result, 14 may the constitutional court dismissed the head of the by Stanislav Shevchuk.
