The Fund Igor Yankovsky together with Goskino represented Ukrainian cinema at the 52nd International film festival in Karlovy vary

At the end in the Czech Republic, 52-th International film festival in Karlovy vary the Ukrainian-Slovak film of Peter Babieca Mezha (producers Andrey Ermak and Wanda Adamik Hricova) presented in competition, was awarded “the Crystal globe” for best Director.

Such a high award of the Ukrainian filmmakers got for the first time in many years. In addition to Slovak actors in the movie played by famous Ukrainian masters of the stage – Rimma zyubina, Stanislav Boklan and the young actor Alexander Piskunov.

“It’s nice to see how is Ukrainian film industry in recent years. My Foundation for the past five years engaged in the promotion of the Ukrainian cinema abroad and now we are seeing the first results of this work. What Ukrainian films are increasingly selected for participation in competitive programs of prestigious film festivals – speaks volumes. We have talented Directors, we have talented operators, scriptwriters, actors. The industry is beginning to work, Ukrainian cinema is becoming trendy. Two films with the Ukrainian part was presented this year in Cannes, our film competed in a competition in Karlovy vary, we have just learned that two other films got in the competitions of the film festival in Locarno (Switzerland). What is this if not success?!” noted philanthropist Igor Yankovsky.

It is worth noting that this year Ukraine has never been so powerfully presented at one of the world’s most prestigious and oldest in Europe, the Karlovy vary film festival. Besides the main competition, the Ukrainian cinema was presented in parallel to the East of the West a film by Marina Stepanska “Strmilov”.

All Ukrainian films presented in Karlovy vary, was supported by state Committee for cinematography of Ukraine. Not surprisingly, this year the festival was visited by the representative of the Ukrainian official delegation for all time of existence of the festival: the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko, Minister of culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nischuk, a member of the national Council on television and radio Juliana Feshchuk, the head of Goskino Philip Ilyenko, and many others.

During the Karlovy vary international film festival, all-Ukrainian charitable Foundation Igor Jankowski, NGO “Initiative for the future” and the Monegasque Association Helping Hand in conjunction with the state of Ukraine in partnership with the Slovak company Wandal Production and Ukrainian “garnet Media” organized and held a number of parties have submitted creative collectives of Ukrainian films.

And they were a great success. So, the party in the main hotel Thermal festival dedicated to the presentation of the film “Strigalev” besides the regulars of film festivals: producers, Directors, festival selectors, critics and journalists went and the famous French actor and Director, star of films “the Matrix”, “Sugar”, “Odyssey” and many other Lambert Wilson. Answering questions of Ukrainian journalists, he said that with pleasure would be removed in Ukrainian film.

The result of these meetings is fruitful cooperation between the Ukrainian producers and Directors, new films made in co-production and the emergence of the Ukrainian film premieres in national and international distribution.
