The Prosecutor General’s office explained the refusal of Interpol to look for Yanukovych

The Department argued that the decision of Interpol adopted because of the shortcomings of the Ukrainian legislation.

The GPU said that the removal of the Interpol’s wanted list of former President Viktor Yanukovych is due to “shortcomings of the Ukrainian legislation on election of a measure of restraint in respect of wanted persons and suspect status”.

Today it became known that Interpol has stopped the investigation of Yanukovych. First, it was said by the lawyers of the former President, and then confirmed in the Ukrainian police.

This was stated by the head of the Department of special investigation GPU Sergey Gorbatyuk, reports the press service of the Ministry.

He stressed that “the withdrawal from the international search Yanukovych was not because of mistakes of the investigation or the violations committed by investigative authorities.”

The GPU noted that now the conclusions of the Interpol processed, and then priyant decision on further action and, in particular, possible changes to existing legislation.

Mr. Yan also said that the decision will be appealed.

“The solution worked out, we must make conclusions what to do: to appeal this decision and to amend the law, listening to Interpol”, – he said.
