The head of Gazprom told Putin about the gas contracts with Ukraine

Глава Газпрома рассказал Путину о газовых контрактах с Украиной

Putin and Miller at a meeting in the Kremlin

Miller said the primary question – whether Ukraine will buy Russian gas under direct contract.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller on Monday, September 9, discussed the gas contracts with Ukraine. This is stated on the Kremlin website.

Miller said that before the end of the year Gazprom plans to pump into the underground storages in Europe, at least 11.4 billion cubic meters of gas, which is more than twice the level of last year.

“We see that our European partners are injecting at very high rates, it’s trying to do and our Ukrainian colleagues. Without a doubt, one of the factors of the high volumes of gas pumping into underground storage is the fact that on 31 December of the current year ends with the Treaty of transit through the territory of Ukraine”, – said the head of Gazprom.

“The question of the transit agreement is extremely important, but still the primary question – whether Ukraine will buy Russian gas under direct contract. Because the answer to this question is the answer to the question, which gas transmission capacity on the Russian side, Gazprom has to guarantee for gas supply to Ukraine”, – said Miller.

“We need to contain them, to pay for this”, – said the President of the Russian Federation.

Miller agreed, adding that it is also understanding what level of prices will be at the Ukrainian end consumer. “Because in case of the conclusion of direct contracts on gas supply with Gazprom the gas price for final consumers in Ukraine can be 25% below current levels”, – said the head of the holding.

Earlier today it became known that the gas negotiations between Ukraine and Russia will take place on September 19.
