France launched an investigation against the head of the Olympic Committee of Japan, Tsunekazu Takeda. As it became known on Friday, January 11, the official is suspected of corruption.

In particular, Tsunekazu Takeda suspect that he paid about 2 million euros for the right of Tokyo to host the summer Olympic games in 2020. Due to suspicious payouts sports official appeared in court in France in early 2017, but the French justice could not find enough evidence against Takeda. Two years later, investigators apparently found new evidence.

The head of the Olympic Committee of Japan rejected the charges against him. Lucenzo Takeda said that “not involved in this offense as bribery”.

The international Olympic Committee (IOC) has so far refrained from taking action, citing the presumption of innocence. At the same time in Department noted that the ethics Committee took up the consideration of this case.

Earlier it was reported that residents of the canadian city of calgary in the referendum voted against hosting the winter Olympics in 2026.
