The IMF approved updated due to blockade of Donbass macroeconomic forecasts.

The international monetary Fund (IMF) has approved an updated macroeconomic forecast of the National Bank of Ukraine. This broadcast of “Radio News”, said the Director of the Department of monetary policy and economic analysis Sergey Nikolaichuk.

“In fact, we provided the experts of the Foundation their estimates of the macroeconomic effects of the blockade. We have provided evaluation of the new macroeconomic forecast, which were then published. And in fact, we discussed these projections with the Fund’s experts and working level they agreed with our reasoning … and took over the macroeconomic framework our numbers,” he said.

Nikolaychuk recalled that the IMF programme is based on macroeconomic forecasts, but the 3rd revision of the cooperation program did not take into account the effect of the blockade of Donbass. In this regard, the Fund has asked about the provision of updated macroeconomic forecasts and deferred consideration tranche for Ukraine.

As reported, the national Bank of Ukraine has lowered the forecast of growth of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2017 from 2.8% to 1.9% due to a temporary cessation of movement of goods across the line of differentiation on Donbass. At the same time, the Bank does not expect significant changes in forecasts of inflation (9.1 percent in 2017 and 6.0% in 2018).
