The IMF will help Ukraine to carry out pension reform

The parties agreed in the near future to jointly develop a General strategy for the reform of the pension system.

The IMF and the government of Ukraine will develop a General strategy for the reform of the pension system. This was stated by Vice-Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko during a meeting with representatives of the IMF mission, the press service of the government.

As noted, the main issue of discussion was the comprehensive reform of the pension system of Ukraine, overcoming the deficit and balancing the budget of the Pension Fund.

“Despite the absence of formal signatures, we moved on the program, which was previously agreed with the IMF. We fulfilled and will fulfill its obligations to reform the pension system, because we understand that it is necessary first of all to Ukraine and citizens of Ukraine”, – said Rozenko.

He reminded the mission that the government last year submitted to the Parliament a number of bills that provide, among other things, the introduction of a funded pensions and withdrawals from the Pension Fund unusual expenses.

“These measures, as well as de-shadowing of wages, which we expect as a result of lower UST, is the steps that can really give the effect to reduce the deficit of the Pension Fund,” he said.

The report notes that the parties agreed in the near future to jointly develop a General strategy for the reform of the pension system and to the completion of the mission in Ukraine to agree on initial steps to restore order in the pension system and overcome the deficit budget of the Pension Fund.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko said that the pension reform which included the introduction of three-level pension system will be supported by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine already this year.
