Melescanu criticized the law on languages in Ukraine

Melescanu wants to hold consultations with representatives of ethnic minorities.

The article of the new law on education in Ukraine has a negative impact on minorities and needs to be expanded. This was stated on Thursday, January 11, the head of the Romanian foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu during a visit to Chernivtsi, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

“Romania continues to hold the view that article 7 of the new law On education has a negative impact on ethnic minorities”, – said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Romania.

Melescanu sure that it is necessary to hold consultations with representatives of ethnic minorities.

“The Romanian side considers that all the proposals that were heard in Romania, reflected in additional documents, which could be introduced in the Ukrainian legislation”, – he added.

We will remind, the Venice Commission considered that the rights of minorities can be met without amending the seventh article of the law on education in Ukraine.
