The leader of the Hungarians of Transcarpathia complained to the head of the European Parliament from Ukraine Kiev

Brenzovych in Brussels discussed the situation with the Hungarians of Transcarpathia with the head of the European Parliament, Tajani.

The head of the Society of Hungarian culture Transcarpathia and the people’s Deputy from BPP Basil (Laszlo) Brenzovych in Brussels, complained of the oppression of Transcarpathian Hungarians. As reported Mukachevo.net in the meeting participated the European Commissioner for education, culture, youth Tibor Navracsics and President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani.

So, Brenzovych said that the Ukrainian “measures against the nationalities are an obstacle to peace and stability” in Transcarpathia. According to him, the living conditions of Hungarians in Transcarpathia “deteriorated”. In particular through the creation of a negative image in the media.

“In the Ukrainian media there is practically no positive news about the Hungarian community, they consider their enemies, as well as Hungary,” said Brenzovich.

The leader of the Hungarians also condemned the “unreasonable” test of the Hungarian intelligentsia, representatives of CMCS and the power of the number of Hungarians on the borders with the assistance of the SBU.

“It is very difficult to tolerate what is happening at the state borders, and we see that these measures are clearly aimed against the Hungarians. Never has the situation of the Hungarians in the history of independent Ukraine was not so bad,” said Brenzovich.

It is also noted that the European Commissioner Tibor Navracsics will inform about the situation in Transcarpathia European Commissioner for enlargement Johannes Khan. Navracsics promised to apply to the Commissioner for regional policy Corina Cretu and head of the EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini that they closely followed the issues that affect the Transcarpathian Hungarians.

The President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani during the meeting stressed that “minorities for Europe are very important.” “For Europe it is important to preserve linguistic diversity, so minorities must be protected,” he said.

Tajani promised that he would consult with President Petro Poroshenko and ask him to protect the rights of minorities in Ukraine, as the EU is strongly committed to supporting national minorities on their territory.
