Coast guard is free to open fire in case of attack in the area of territorial waters within 24 nautical miles from the coast of Ukraine.
The ships of Sea protection of state frontier service of Ukraine according to the decision of the Verkhovna Rada have the right without warning opened fire to repel the attack. For such changes to the law On the area of Ukraine voted in a meeting on Thursday, December 6, 244 deputies, according to WUXI.
Now the coast guard will be able to open fire in case of attack in the area of the territorial waters at a distance of 24 nautical miles from the Ukrainian coast.
While the law States that fire can be opened “to repel the armed attack and invasion on the territory of Ukraine of armed military groups and criminal gangs, armed conflicts and armed provocations, to repel the attack (assisting to repel the attack) the ships (boats) and vessels of the State border service of Ukraine or other court of Ukraine, for the cessation of armed resistance.”
Also, the coast guard may conduct the prosecution of vessels violating the Ukrainian legislation, before they enter the territorial waters of another state.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law according to which Maritime territory of Ukraine will be extended to 22 km.
It was also reported that the units and bodies of the State border service of Ukraine given in full combat readiness.
