Coins will be exchanged at banks for three years

From 1 October of the current year 1, 2 and 5 cents will not be able to pay for goods and services.

October 1, 2019 national Bank of Ukraine will start to withdraw coins of denomination 1, 2 and 5 cents from cash circulation and banking institutions and stores will cease to accept them. This reports the press service of the NBU in Facebook.

In this regard, the NBU explained how and where citizens can exchange without constraints of small coins to the coins and banknotes of the other denominations over the next three years:

  • in the first year from the date of their retirement (until 30 September 2020) in all branches of the Ukrainian banks;
  • for three years starting from the date of their retirement (until September 30, 2022, inclusive) in the National Bank and the authorized banks (Oshchadbank, PrivatBank, Raiffeisen Bank Aval).
  • Also, the national Bank recalled the start of the gradual withdrawal from circulation coins denomination of 25 cents, but the coins will remain legal tender.

    Earlier in the NBU reported that the abolition of small coins will not accelerate inflation. The head of the NBU Yakov Smoliy said that we are not talking about increasing the money in circulation.
