Pope Francis during the General audience urged to pray for victims of the Chernobyl disaster. This was reported by “Vatican Radio”.

He also congratulated the people of Chernobyl from the Ukraine and recalled the collection for humanitarian needs of Ukraine.

“I greet the pilgrims who came from Ukraine and Belarus in the framework of the international conference on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. Again offering prayers for the victims of this disaster and Express our gratitude to the rescuers and all initiatives designed to alleviate the suffering and repair the damage. Christ Is Risen!” – Pope to a group of liquidators of the Chernobyl accident and settlers from Chernobyl zone, who came from Ukraine and Belarus.

In addition, the Holy Father recalled that next Sunday will be a collection for the humanitarian needs of the victims of war in Ukraine.

“The population of Ukraine for a long time suffers from effects of armed conflict, many forgotten. As you know, I called the Church in Europe to support the initiative I announced to go towards this humanitarian emergency. Already thanks in advance to those who will make a generous contribution to this initiative, which will be held next Sunday, April 24,” – said the head of the Catholic Church.
