The residents of the Eastern regions of Ukraine will receive six million euros in humanitarian aid on behalf of Pope Francis, the press service of the Vatican.

“The first tranche on behalf of the Holy Father as an aid during the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine will be transferred to Christmas. It consists of the sum of almost €6 million from €12 million collected,” – said in the message.

The Vatican added that the money meant to the residents of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

“These funds are intended to assist more than two million people in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, regardless of their religion, faith or ethnic origin”, – stated in the message.

It is noted that the collection of funds to help the population of Ukraine affected by military conflict, was announced on April 24, 2016.

Recently it was also reported that the Pope wants to visit the Donbass.

Last month, Japan has contributed to the Donbass three million dollars, and in October the Red Cross has sent humanitarian aid to the Donbass.
