Petro Poroshenko speaks at the forum Ukraine remembers – the world acknowledges

Ukraine counts on international support for the draft of the UN Declaration to the 85-th anniversary of the Holodomor, said the head of state.

About 30 countries have recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the international forum: Ukraine remembers, the world recognizes that’s going on in Kiev, on Saturday, November 24.

“About three dozen States at a particular level given a proper assessment of this human tragedy. Only recent important decisions by the U.S. Senate and the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic”, – quotes Poroshenko his press service.

He noted that every year expands the range of States that recognize the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. According to him, international organizations such as the UN, the European Parliament, UNESCO, the OSCE, the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holodomor.

“We are grateful to our foreign partners who have joined the restoration of historical truth. Today, however, we are still halfway, so count on broad international support for the draft of the UN Declaration to the 85-th anniversary of the Holodomor prepared by Ukraine,” – expressed hope that the Ukrainian leader.

Poroshenko called on representatives of the partner countries to support and to co-sponsor the Declaration.

We will remind, on Saturday, November 24, Ukraine celebrates the Day of memory of victims of Holodomor in 1932-1933. According to the Institute of demography and social studies named after Ptukha, the population losses in Ukraine due to high mortality during the famine in 1930-ies was 3.9 million people.

Note, this week two American States recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people is North Carolina and Connecticut. Only USA 21 the state has taken such a decision.

And in early October the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution, which became the first in the history of the legal act of the U.S. Congress, where the Holodomor of 1932-1933 is recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
