Taufatofua qualified for the Games in 2018 in the last race in the qualifying competition in Iceland.
The representative of Tonga Pete Taufatofua who carried his country’s flag at the opening ceremony of Rio 2016, will be in Pyeongchang 2018 in ski racing.
The athlete will be remembered by many fans when he departed at the opening ceremony of Rio 2016 with the flag of Tonga without a t-shirt and a traditional skirt.
At the 2016 Olympics Taufatofua acted as a Taekwondo player, but lost in the first round. Now he made it to Pyeongchang in 2018 in ski racing, thus becoming the first skier-Olympian in the history of Tonga.
“After Rio 2016, I tried to find the most difficult sport there is. I wanted a new challenge for himself,” said Taufatofua.
The athlete prepares for the Olympics in 2018 in Australia where riding on roller skis.
